RCF Arena Reggio Emilia is the largest investment in culture made in Reggio Emilia in the last 20 years: the conversion and redevelopment into a permanent facility of the area known as Campovolo, which has occasionally been hosting important concerts and events since the early 1980s.
The RCF Arena Reggio Emilia project, by Iotti + Pavarani Architetti, Arch. Guido Tassoni, Lauro Sacchetti Associati, took part in the 2018 edition of Urbanpromo, the benchmark Italian urban redevelopment event, organised by the Italian National Institute of Urban Planning and by Urbit.
Described as “the symbol of the Reggio Emilia of tomorrow”, RCF Arena Reggio Emilia stands out in particular for the recovery and reuse of the non-operative area of the airport (thus guaranteeing zero land consumption), for its innovative accessibility and mobility solutions, for the attention paid to reducing environmental impact and for how perfectly the facility slots into the more complex strategy designed to improve and develop the Reggio Emilia North area, of which the most significant feature is undoubtedly the Mediopadana high-speed rail station, along with the motorway tollbooth, the new northern bypass, the renewed Mancasale Industrial Estate and the new Innovation Park in the Reggiane area of the city.
RCF Arena Reggio Emilia is also expected to bring a significant boost to the economy and to tourism, offering a range of new opportunities for the whole of the metropolitan area.
