Campovolo, setting records since 1982
RCF Arena Reggio Emilia is the largest investment in culture made in Reggio Emilia in the last 20 years: the conversion and redevelopment into a permanent facility of the area known as Campovolo, which has occasionally been hosting important concerts and events since the early 1980s.
From the first live performance by King Crimson in 82, the Campovolo stages have hosted a series of major Italian and international artists. 1997 saw the record-breaking performance by U2, before an audience of around 150,000, who flocked to Campovolo for the Italian leg of the PopMart tour; other historic concerts included Ligabue in 2005, enjoyed by a crowd of 180,000, as well as “Italia Loves Emilia” (2012), the maxi charity event for the people affected by the earthquake in Emilia, with 13 artists on stage and an audience of over 150,000.
These are just a few examples of the numerous events that have taken place in Reggio Emilia’s historic Campovolo area: hence the decision to turn it into a permanent, fully equipped facility, able to contain 100,000 people per performance, earning it the definition of the largest equipped Arena in the world.
